Jerri RosenDear Friends,

This July 4th we celebrate the many freedoms we are afforded living in the United States. These freedoms became very personal for us on June 14th when Working Wardrobes held a Day of Self-Esteem for 50 combat and combat-wounded veterans of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. While the services were the same great wardrobing and career development services we always provide, there was something intrinsically inspiring about being able to honor these valiant heroes. I hope you enjoy the great photos!

I received many handshakes, hugs, and words of thanks throughout the event, but it is the small note from Sgt. Somerville we just received that made all the effort so worthwhile:

"This information has already helped me at an interview, cause I just got the job!"

A very special acknowledgement to Major General and Mrs. Waldhauser who helped us establish the connections that made this event possible. And of course, a great thank you to Scot Ellingson, Lou Marlin and Brian Wilcox, the founders of DRIVE, our men's leadership association, for making it their mission to support our veterans. With 7,000 Camp Pendleton Marines transitioning out of the military each year, our work has only just begun. It costs $500 to provide each Marine with the knowledge and wardrobing they need to succeed in the interview and on the job. I would be honored if you would consider sponsoring a Marine for $500 or even a squad of 13 Marines for $6,500! Your donations will help us as we continue to our commitment to these brave men and women.

Happy 4th of July!

P.S. If you missed the veterans event, here's another great opportunity to volunteer. There are still a few spots on the bus for the military wives' Ball Gown Giveway on September 20th! Click here to download the registration form.

H.I.S. House

Homeless Intervention Shelter House known as H.I.S. House was started in 1989 by the Placentia Presbyterian Church. The program began with a volunteer committee and in March 2001, thanks to a HUD grant and many volunteers, H.I.S. House completed its second renovation project. The shelter, which expanded from 25 to 40 beds, assists homeless individuals, couples and families to regain self-sufficiency through housing, training, counseling and personal support. H.I.S. House is one of the only shelters in Orange County which invites single adults without children to participate in their program as well as reunification of parents and their children who have been in the foster care system.

Approximately 140 people are served at H.I.S. House each year. Working Wardrobes assists these adults in transition by providing career development and wardrobing services through our annual Days of Self-Esteem, as we have for the past 12 years.

Business Beyond
the Bottom Line
FedEx

Last month, 100 women arrived at a high school to find the gym had been transformed into a beautiful boutique for the Women's Day of Self-Esteem. A similar transformation recently took place at FIDM in Irvine when their center became a wonderland of prom dresses for low-income teens at our Cinderellas for Life event. While these wardrobing centers do appear practically overnight, it's not without incredible community support! Read more
