July’s Smart Women event was truly a night for celebration! Working Wardrobes’ Smart Women gathered in honor of Curves Work and our amazing partner Ashley Nell Tipton. Throughout the Curves Work campaign, Ashley has provided support and inspiration, and we are so happy to have had her onboard for a campaign that is close to our hearts.
The night began with great food, shopping, and mingling. Before the event, Ashley took time to sit down with a group of Orange County fashion bloggers and writers. Ashley answered questions and discussed how she made her dreams of becoming a plus-size fashion designer come to life! Ashley’s advice provided wonderful insight and inspired every person in the room.
Our stores set up popup shops for a night full of great deals and shopping. Both the Hanger Boutiques and the Resale Shops were at the event while attendees shopped the racks, making purchases that help our organization serve men and women in need.
The night’s big event focused on two women who took the stage to tell their stories. First, a former Working Wardrobes client, Luisa Ortez, told her story of success. After leaving Working Wardrobes, Luisa felt confident and beautiful and used the skills she learned to get her dream job. Now, Luisa inspires others to go back to school and reach their full potential. Luisa’s story moved everyone in the audience and embodied everything Working Wardrobes stands for.
Our CEO Jerri Rosen, sat down with Ashley Nell onstage to discuss her journey on Project Runway. Ashley talked about the support her grandmother gave her growing up and how her experience in the fashion industry drove her to want to create stylish clothing for plus-size women.
Ashley’s latest project focuses on creating accessories for the plus-size woman. She explained how she was frustrated with the current options and wanted to design accessories that fit—without extensions! Because of this, Ashley has recently launched her very own line of plus-size jewelry made to make women feel stylish and beautiful! She was kind enough to donate her collection, and Ashley’s collection is now available online!
The Smart Women event would not have been made possible without the endless support from our volunteers and donors. We thank Anaheim’s own Light Up My Holiday for donating the beautiful light decorations for the event, and a big thank you to Ashley Nell Tipton and her team for all of their help throughout the Curves Work campaign.
We’ll be planning more events with Ashley, so stay tuned!
Plus-size clothing donations will always be a need for us year-round. If you have any plus-size clothing donations that you would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate your support. You can find out more about how to donate here.
